What would the Golden Girls drink? | How to Drink

The Golden Girls was one of the greatest, and most ahead of its time shows ever, let's honor my favorite ladies with a drink!

From 1985 to 1992 The Golden Girls was beamed into our households and was the easily one of the best three camera sitcoms of all time. It was easily as hilarious AND ground breaking as I Love Lucy and All in the Family and I think the credit is owed to its incredible cast of super-star veteran actresses who had the chops to master the form. And that's the thing, the Three Camera show is a specific format, it's not really like film, it's closer to theater. The show is done more or less live, with an audience (canned laughter wasn't actually used as often as people now joke) and the timing was in the performances, not really the edit (though I hate to throw my own profession under the bus here).

I have a theory as to why the three camera show is losing favor and it's not about audiences losing interest in it, I think it's got more to do with a lack of preparatory theater trained and veteran live television talent to pull from. Basically, there's not enough people properly trained to DO a three camera show around anymore. Which is why the Golden Girls is still hilarious and the less said about big bang theory the better...

The Rusty Anchor is named for the Rusty Anchor Bar where mostly Blanche, but all the ladies, spend their time. I imagine it as a kind of house drink and it's perfect in that role, it's a fairly simple variation on a Rusty Nail.

Rusty Anchor
.5 oz. -or- 15 ml. Lemon Juice
1 oz. -or- 30 ml. Drambuie
2 oz. -or- 60 ml. London Dry Gin
build in glass over ice and stir
Float a large amount of Angostura Bitters across the top
Garnish with a Cheesecake
