TOXIC FOODS OUR DOGS SHOULD NEVER EVER EAT
Here are some common foods we should never allow our pup to share. They are toxic and poisonous and can cause death. Take a look at the list below:
COFFEE - all forms cause heart/nervous system/urinary damage
GRAPES -- just 6 little grapes can cause kidney failure -- no treatment available
ALCOHOL -- can cause in-coordination & possible fatal cardiac arrest
NUTMEG -- high levels can cause seizures and can be fatal
RAISINS -- dried grapes -- can cause kidney failure
AVOCADOS -- whole fruit and leaves are toxic
CHOCOLATE -- all forms can cause urinary/heart damage
FATTY FOODS -- can cause pancreatitis and can be fatal
MADACAMIA NUTS -- causes nervous system damage/paralysis
RAW YEAST DOUGH -- uncooked raw dough can cause vomiting/diarrhoea
XYLITOL SWEETENER -- can cause in-coordination/collapse & seizures
MOLDY/SPOILED FOODS -- can cause muscle/liver damage/vomiting/diarrhoea
ONIONS/ONION POWDER - just 1 onion can cause anaemia/in-coordination
GREEN POTATOES & PEELINGS -- causes gastro/heart/nervous system damage
TOMATOES -- green leaves/stems are toxic BUT fruit is fine and will not harm your pup
APPLES/APRICOTS/CHERRIES/PEACHES/PLUMS - green leaves/stems/seeds are toxic BUT fruit is fine and will not harm your dog
If your pup has eaten any of the above foods -- contact your vet or pet poisons helpline.
Keep Hydrogen Peroxide 3% in your first aid cupboard along with a plastic syringe. If you are instructed to induce vomiting (50/50 with water) you are prepared and may save your dog's life. Induced vomiting is not always the solution especially when dealing with caustic substances so consult your vet first.
Take your pup to the vet as soon as possible.
