Salt Mine
The Pedra de Lume, a volcanic crater on the Island, salt mine is a truly unique sight. To enter you must first climb a hill parallel to a disused cable car, a powerful symbol of the decline of the Cape Verdean salt industry. This admission ticket grants you access to the island’s most-visited attraction where you can swim in evaporation pools, called ‘salinas,’. Float in salt pans containing the world’s second-highest saltwater content. For a nominal fee, a shower is provided after swimming in the salty lakes.
Beach - Santa Maria
The Santa Maria beach is in a large bay and is up to 3 – 4 kilometers long. It consists of a white / yellow and wide sandy beach with no rocks. The water is usually fairly flat with a minimal current. The beach stretches into the sea and because there are practically no stones, rocks and shells, you can enjoy the sea with your bare feet. In the months of more wind there are waves, which is very nice to jump into. The sea is also perfect for watersport.
